THE only place I've ever felt as though I HAD time or FOUND it, was in the Amazon. Admist the rainforest where there are no bikes, no cars, but boats, and canoes in passing- and even the sight of children practicing to paddle in their canoes...and the presence of ginormous trees towering over the rest of many kingdoms and phylums of life was all too humbling to realize how little and insignificant we humans really are in the bigger picture- each of us in our own little bubbles simply passing thru...

Did you know that "the lungs of our planet", the Amazon biome crosses borders between Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, Guyana, French Guiana, and Suriname- a total of 9 South American countries covering roughly 40% of the continent?
In 1542, Francisco de Orellana, who was a Spanish explorer, gave the Amazon River its name after being attacked by a tribe while he was exploring the region. This legendary tribe, the Icamiabas, which translates as 'women without husbands' reminded him of the Amazons in Greek mythology, who were a race of warrior women. And so the rainforest takes its name from the river- and the Amazons.
