"I walk backwards into the future with my eyes fixed on my past." - Maori proverb
Reaching for 2025...
As students of horology, every day is a moment to look forward and something we will likely look back on. We the virtual drivers / passengers whether looking ahead through the windshield, that side view mirror, or glancing back in the rear view or over one's shoulder and ever weary of those blind spots, we've always found the irony of that passenger sideview mirror reminding us consistently that "Objects in Mirror are closer than they appear". Because they are.
Separately it's interesting to note that passenger mirrors were purposefully created to be convex, in order to give the driver a wider point of view and minimizing blind spots, whereas THAT driver side mirror is flat- appearing as is.
Bringing all these points of perspective into mind, can't help but question which mirrors we use most, whether we are really the drivers or passengers in this life. Whether we are more focused on looking forward, or more nostalgic forever looking back, it's important to arnold palmer it- and be mindful of BOTH.
Whether oblivious to- or staring at the minutes and hours speed by as we've done with clocks, this concept of seizing time is a late realization that often occurs later in our years and is really about accepting that so much of life is about having patience, and "taking the time"... to prioritize what means most to us. "Making time" for what means the most to us... the people, the punch lists, the to-do's...
Case in point- here we go stumbling into another year, 2024 now 2025- and we're finally close to launching. When you're lacking in time, hopefully there are shortcuts and/or ways to make up for it in other ways. While our supposed Christmas cards were inevitably pushed to New Years cards, which then officially became post New Years cards- which just officially went out yesterday, still better late then never, right?
We're trying not to be too hard on ourselves, but also taking proper measures to ensure we start 2025 on a positive, organized note so as to put our best feet forward. Needing to consistently remind myself that it's better to be even-keeled and ensure that we check off all those boxes and plan accordingly- still learning to digest the concept of "slow growth". Still learning patience...
Noting that albeit "winging" the holidays, and finally having a bit of R&R to indulge in PJ status, NOT having to "DO" so much for a few days (abstain from the usual rigamarole for a smidge), and revel in a bit of time with family (which I see all too little), I did have a little brainfart amidst our mahjong marathon as we "washed" mahjong tiles feeling a bit of lightheartedness- thinking about the "hand" or cards that we're not only dealt with, but those that we choose.
Here's to that exciting TBD mixed lot -thinking about our 2025 bag of tricks and tribulations, while celebrating the serendipity of life, and the beautiful peoples we share our moments with - who make it all the richer. 😍
